How can I help?

Picture
With the new Ofsted criteria focussing firmly on children becoming confident readers before they leave primary school many schools are now looking to update their book stocks and find exciting ways to encourage reading for pleasure. You may well not have a designated library space, and sadly many areas do not have a Schools Library Service to help out any more. I can assist you in many ways:
  • auditing your book stocks to establish areas where you may be lacking
  • provide contacts to publishers with preferential discounts
  • prepare orders for you
  • advise on the effective use of library management software
  • provide a list and contacts of authors that are engaging and exciting for the age group you are working with
  • staff training on using free online media to create a buzz around reading
  • help to develop your library
  • advice on creation of displays and organising events as well as providing ideas to help you create a whole school reading culture

New technologies can provide a rich and vibrant learning experience for students - using mini webcams, blogging,Voicethread or using games such as Myst (which is excellent for promoting descriptive writing and has been used successfully in many schools) can all be exciting ways of learning for young people. I can provide technology inset for a day, half a day or as a twilight session to help your staff see the potential in cross curricular technology use. Resources will be provided for follow up of the visit including a list of whiteboard programmes available online. Many of the web 2.0 technologies I will demonstrate can be used to create resources for Virtual Learning Environments such as Frog.
