Canva for School Librarians: Design, Advocate, Inspire

Date: 03/07/2026
Timing : 9 - 12.30 (including a 15 minute break)
Price £55
Course Description:
In this lively and practical three hour workshop, school librarians will discover how to use Canva to promote reading, raise the profile of the library, and support whole school literacy initiatives including the National Year of Reading.
With the major updates announced at Canva Create, Canva has become far more than a design tool. New AI powered features, smarter content creation tools, enhanced video editing, interactive elements, and easier ways to build documents, presentations, websites, and campaigns now make it one of the most powerful and accessible creative platforms available to schools.
This course will show you how to use Canva confidently and strategically within a busy school library role, even if you have no previous design experience.
Through guided demonstrations you will learn how to:
• Design posters, displays, and digital signage that promote reading for pleasure and stop pupils in their tracks
• Create professional newsletters, reports, and publications using Canva Docs and visual document tools as alternatives to Microsoft Publisher
• Use Magic Design, Magic Write, AI image generation, and Canva’s new AI features to create high quality content quickly and efficiently
• Produce short videos, trailers, animations, and social media style content to spotlight books, reading challenges, author visits, and reading events
• Build interactive quizzes, worksheets, presentations, and learning resources to support reading engagement and library lessons
• Create ready to share promotional materials for reading campaigns, themed weeks, competitions, and library launches
• Use Canva’s bulk creation and automation tools to quickly generate certificates, bookmarks, reading passports, badges, and rewards
• Create scroll stopping content for school websites, screens, newsletters, and social media that celebrates reading and demonstrates library impact
• Build polished presentations for assemblies, CPD sessions, lessons, and staff meetings using Canva’s latest presentation and collaboration tools
• Explore Canva websites, whiteboards, and collaborative features to support pupil voice, reading communities, and whole school literacy projects
• Produce professional reports, infographics, and impact visuals that help senior leaders clearly see the value of the library and reading culture
The course focuses on using design and digital media as practical advocacy tools. You will explore how to tell the story of your library, promote reading initiatives, and communicate the impact of reading culture in ways that feel confident, consistent, and achievable within real school time pressures.
By the end of the session, you will leave with a bank of adaptable templates, ideas, and ready to use materials, alongside the confidence and skills to create your own professional promotional content whenever you need it. No design experience needed. Just bring your ideas and a willingness to experiment.
